Year 4 activities: 

Year 4 have Roman day in school today. They have come in dressed as Romans! We will be making togas, having a shield competition, looking at Roman games and learning the story of Rome including the gladiators!
Year 4 took part in a music concert yesterday at St.George’s Hall. The children listened to the orchestra, sang lots of songs and played their recorders! ??????
Year 4 have been practicing using their recorders and singing in preparation for the music concert next week!! ??????
Year 4 have started exploring electrical circuits. They have learnt about the different components of a circuit and looked at insulators and conductors. ⚡⚡
Year 4 have been working on writing acrostic poems. They have looked at different language features and effectiveness of these. 4B have even created their own anthology! ?✏

Year 4 have been writing non-chronological reports on an animal of their choice. They thought of different sub-headings and researched information to create their own report. ???

 

Year 4 have been classifying different animals using Carroll and Venn diagrams in Science. The children have researched the animals they didn’t know and thought of their own ways to classify/sort. ?????

 

In Art, Year 4 have been looking at paint techniques. We have looked at making primary and secondary colours and how to use our brush to make different strokes. We will be moving onto using a range of medium such as charcoal, water colours, pastels to create our art work. ✍??

 

In Geography, Year 4 have been looking at grid references in order to read a map. We have identified human and physical features on maps of Italy and the UK using 4 figure grid references. We will go onto compare the 2 locations! ???

Year 4 received a letter from Varjak Paw with a dilemma on whether to leave the house or stay! Take a look at some of the replies we have written to Varjak!  ???

As part of our Italian themed day Year 4 have been exploring the Mediterranean diet. We have designed and made pizzas which we will evaluate next week! ???

Can you tell what book character or word the children in Year 4 are dressed as for World Book Day? ???

 

In Year 4, the children have started to look at measuring mass. We have used scales to weigh different items in the classroom in order to read the intervals on scales. We will move on to converting between grams and kilograms. ???⏳

Year 4 have been performing freeze frames in the role of characters from our new text ‘Varjak Paw’. We predicted and used our inference to connect with the characters and will go to to write a diary entry in the role of Varjak. ??

Year 4 have been looking at states of matter in Science. We have looked at the particles in a solid, liquid and gas and investigated how these can change. We will move onto exploring evaporation and condensation in the water cycle. ?????

Year 4 have been learning all about fractions in Maths. We have looked at converting fractions to decimals, ordering fractions with common and non common denominators and comparing these too! The children have worked very hard and will move on to looking at equivalent fractions next week! ?✏?

Year 4 have been making Egyptian Shaduf’s this afternoon as part of their DT project. The children have used trial and error and followed a design criteria. We are looking forward to see which ones will be successful! ✂????

 

In Computing, Year 4 have been looking at what a digital imprint is and how to stay safe online. We answered questions and created posters & mascots representing how to stay safe online. ?✔?

As part of our class novel we have been reading George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. The children have written a diary entry in the role of grandma and her reaction to the medicine. Take a look at the children’s amazing work! ??

 

In PE, Year 4 have been performing dance routines at different heights with their partners. The children will move on to creating a sequence at various speeds using some music. ???

 

Year 4 have been learning about the family in Spanish. We have learnt how to say different family members and will go on to give more detail about them such as their name and age.
???

In English this week, Year 4 have started looking at a new book called ‘The Heavenly Elephant’. They have drawn what they imagine the garden will look like. We will go on to write a persuasive text to persuade the character to take us to the garden. ???

Take a look at Year 4’s projects on the Ancient Egyptians. We will be using all the facts in the coming weeks to learn more about this civilisation. ??

This half term, Year 4 have been learning about the family in Spanish. We have drawn a portrait and labelled it, been able to ask if we have a brother/sister, what their name is and complete a comprehension about Pablo’s family. ?✍️

Year 4 have been looking at different forms of ‘measure’ in Maths. We have looked at how to measure, convert, add and subtract length and mass. We will be moving onto looking at capacity next! ?➕➖

The children in Year 4 have been looking at different sources to find information on the discovery of Tutankhamun. We looked at primary and secondary sources and will go on to researching his life and writing a diary entry as a pharoah! ☀️??

Take a look at our imaginary creatures come to life with the use of natural materials! ??☘️

In English, Year 4 have been using their imagination to create their own creature. We used pastels to add to the effect and will move on to writing a description of our creature including expanded noun phrases, similes and different sentence starters! ?✍️?

Year 4 have started their virtual link school project for the year. We have introduced each class to their link school and created some art work to express ourselves! Take a look at the use of alliteration and creativity!

 

Year 4 have been practising their handwriting this morning. The children have worked hard to form their letters correctly. They have also looked for definitions of words they don’t understand in dictionaries! ✍️??

Inspired by our class novel ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’, 4A created their own medicines. We went outside to collect different ingredients such as twigs, leaves, grass, rocks etc and used our imagination to explain what each one would do to ‘granny’. ???

 

Year 4 have been creating freeze frames in English today! They have thought about different feelings, body language and expression of all the characters in our new book- The Heavenly Elephant! ??? We will move on to write a persuasive text in the role of a character!

Take a look at the amazing projects Year 4 children have produced over the holidays all about electricity! We are looking forward to using these in our lessons! ???

Year 4 have had Virtual Reality in school today to enhance their Roman experience. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They looked for the similarities and differences between our life now and the Roman period! ???️

The Year 4 children became archaeologists and discovered Roman artefacts. They used their prediction skills to explain what the items were and what they might have been used for.  They will move on to explore how the Roman Empire expanded over time.  ?️⏳?️

Year 4 have been putting historical events in chronological order. They have used their inference and deduction skills using a range of clues to explain their order. They discovered the Roman time period overlaps with the Egyptians! We will move on to learn about why the Romans invaded Britain. ??

In RE Year 4 have researched the main religions for World Religion Day! We worked in groups to create a presentation on one religion and presented it to the class. We will go on to analyse our own experiences to identify similarities and differences between religions! ???

4A went on their link school visit to Cartwright Hall on Friday! They had an amazing time and made lots of new friends. We are looking forward to welcoming Cracoe & Rylestone Primary School to our school soon!

The children in Year 4 were given a project to complete over the holidays about the Romans. The children have produced a variety of work and have clearly put a lot of effort into their projects. Take a look at the fantastic pieces!

This week Year 4 have been doing a focus write based on the John Lewis Christmas advert. The children have created their own dragon and described it using expanded noun phrases! They will go on to write a story based on their new character! Take a look at their creations! ?

Year 4 have been hot seating Varjak Paw in English this week! We have been inferring the character’s thoughts, feelings and motives and will use this to predict what will happen next. We used the question stems to ensure we asked appropriate open ended questions! #WeExceed ??

Year 4 have been learning about the weather in Spanish this half term. Today they produced weather reports using maps and symbols. They could include a greeting, the name of the city, the country and the weather for this day. Some children could write about different weathers at different times of the day! ?️?️☔?

 

Year 4 have been writing letters in English this week to persuade Varjak to leave or stay in the house. We have tried to use persuasive language, emotive language, powerful adjectives and fronted adverbials. Take a look at the fantastic work! ???

Year 4 have started their topic on Sound in Science this week. We have been classifying instruments using Carroll diagrams and predicting whether they are high or low pitched! ?? We will move on to measuring sound with decibels.

Year 4 had the Egyptian escape room in school today. The children had to work collaboratively and use their problem solving skills with clues to unlock each section! The fastest time was 49 mins 58 seconds!! We had so much fun! ?⏰✔️

Year 4 have been creating freeze frames in English based on our new book Varjak Paw. They have been thinking about how the characters feel and what they would say. We will be using this to write a diary entry in the role of Varjak! ??

As part of Black History Month Year 4 have been learning about Katherine Johnson. Her work at NASA inspired the children to design, create and evaluate rockets using a range of materials!  ?

Year 4 have started a new topic on ‘States of Matter’. We have been comparing and grouping different materials into Solids, Liquids and Gases and identifying the differences between the atoms and molecules in each state. They will move onto learning about how materials can change through the process of evaporation and condensation.

 

In English, Year 4 have been performing ‘Readers Theatre’. This has allowed them to read texts aloud and adapt their tone and intonation. They will use this to write in the role of a character next week!

In Maths Year 4 have been using base 10 to represent numbers. They will use this to start ordering numbers!

 

Year 4 enjoyed their visit to Manchester Theatre on Friday! They watched the Awful Egyptians in 3D! ??

 

Year 4 have enjoyed making Egyptian necklaces today! They used pastels, card and pasta! Take a look at our amazing work!

 

Year 4 have enjoyed creating their own creatures using natural resources! We will be describing our creations next week!

 

Year 4 have started their topic on Ancient Egypt! The children got to mummify a tomato this week!
