Learning in 2sCan at Horton Grange is a dynamic and engaging process. At this age, children are naturally curious and eager to explore the world around them. The learning environment is designed to be safe, stimulating, and nurturing, encouraging children to develop their cognitive, social, and motor skills through play-based activities. At Horton Grange we focus on creating a balance between structured activities and free play, allowing children to learn at their own pace. Activities often include storytelling, music, art, and outdoor play, which help in developing language skills, creativity, and physical coordination. The goal is to foster a love for learning and to build a strong foundation for future educational experiences.
The Early Years Curriculum is divided into seven areas of learning;
The first three areas are known as ‘Prime’ areas:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development-
Developing independence, confidence, co-operating, sharing, taking turns and showing respect.
Communication and Language-
Developing speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Physical Development-
Learning how to use equipment, balance and co-ordination.
There are an additional four ‘Specific’ areas:
Mathematics-
Developing counting, adding, taking away, problem solving, positions, shapes and patterns.
Literacy-
Encouraging the children to link sounds and letters and be able to read and write.
Understanding the World-
Developing knowledge of the world around us including History, Geography, Science, and Design Technology.
Expressive Arts and Design-
Enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials.
